Jay Smart Urgent IV

Jay Smart, Co-owner Veteran

RN CEN (Certified Emergency Nurse)

After completing four years of service in the US Coast Guard, Jay pursued a career in nursing to explore his passion for healthcare. He obtained an associate degree in nursing and worked in the Emergency Department of a small local hospital. During the following five years, Jay developed a solid understanding of Emergency Medicine and gained valuable hands-on experience.
 
Seeking new challenges and opportunities to grow, Jay moved to a Level I Trauma Center, where he spent 15 years. During this time, he worked in a high-pressure environment and took on supervisory roles, guiding and mentoring fellow nurses. This experience solidified his leadership skills and expertise in emergency care.
 
Since 2015 Jay relocated to SWFL and has become a leader in Emergency Nursing at both Lee Health and most recently Naples Community Health. 
 
Throughout Jay’s 30-year nursing career, he specialized in emergency care, continually updating his skills and knowledge to stay at the forefront of medical advancements. This extensive experience has equipped him with a comprehensive understanding of patient needs and the complexities of urgent care. 
 
Jay’s commitment to excellence and IV therapeutic patient-centered care is unwavering, and he looks forward to assisting you on your wellness journey.

Biljana Karcevska
Maldonado, Co-Owner

RN Specialty in Emergency Nursing

Biljana has 31 years of nursing experience in three different countries and on international waters, and she is dedicated to providing exceptional healthcare services. Her career started in the Cardiac ICU, where she developed critical care skills. She then worked in Military Neuropsychiatry, gaining valuable experience in mental health. Later, she joined the Emergency Response Team on cruise ships, handling medical emergencies for passengers and the crew.

As a Certified Emergency Nurse in BC, Canada, Biljana shared her knowledge as a classroom and clinical instructor at three nursing colleges in Vancouver. Her dedication to holistic, functional and integrative medicine led her to pursue nutrition studies at the Institute of Holistic Nutrition in Vancouver,BC which enabled her to amalgamate nutrition and wellness into her nursing practice.

After relocating to Florida, Biljana continued working in the emergency department, always emphasizing a preventive and holistic approach to healthcare. Her global experience has made her fluent in four languages, allowing her to provide culturally sensitive care to a diverse clientele. Working on cruise ships exposed her to 52 different cultures, enriching her ability to adapt her nursing practice to meet the unique needs of each individual.

Biljana believes in preventing disease through education, sharing experiences, and lifelong learning. Her passion is to empower clients by promoting a proactive approach to wellness. She takes pride in blending traditional nursing with holistic practices to support your overall health and well-being.

Dr Scott Dunavant Urgent IV

Dr Scott Dunavant, Medical Director

MD FACEP (Board Certified Emergency Physician)

Dr. D is a board-certified specialist in Emergency Medicine. After completing undergraduate and medical school at the University of Kentucky, he later returned as faculty in Emergency Medicine. He is an Instrument-Rated Pilot and served as an Aeromedical Flight Physician for ten years providing direct patient care, and served as an EMS Medical Director and EMS Advisory Board Member.

With three wonderful children going off to college, he has increased his work with the international NGO, Global Response Medicine. With GRM he is teaching and providing direct patient care during repeated trips in Kurdistan/Iraq, Ukraine, Mexico, Bahrain, Guatemala and presenting at conferences including UN City in Copenhagen. While Dr. D has lectured nationally, been published and chaired institutional review boards, his main interest has always remained clinical care and teaching others in Emergency Medicine so they may be appropriately confident in emergencies and “be comfortable in uncomfortable settings.”

He still works full-time in the Emergency Department at NCH and expects to for a long time because he still greatly enjoys the work, and is looking forward to an even more active and enjoyable relationship with the men and women of Greater Naples Fire Department.

The Urgent IV team have worked together for over 5 years and have cared for a very diverse patient population in all types of medical emergencies. From life-saving interventions to simple bumps and bruises our team knows just what is needed in every situation. When Urgent IV team is not saving lives, they enjoy traveling all over the world. While here at home, our team greatly enjoy all the adventures that SWFL has to offer, from sailing on the water, to sunbathing on the beach, hitting the links, pursuing athletic competitive challenges or nutrition through healthy cooking.
